Bengaluru to host India’s largest conference for Animation, Games & VFX industry in May

The State Government will organize a three-day animation, games and visual effects conference from May 12 in Bengaluru in a move to offer global platform to students, artists and professionals.

The conference will have workshops, master classes, talks, presentations, screenings of some of the popular and best content from all across the world, live marathon, artistic competitions and technical hackathons. The Bengaluru GAFX, as the event is called, will also hold virtual reality demo and experience zones, job and career fair and education symposium.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiling the logo and website of Bengaluru GAFX Conference on Thursday, and said: “If you have anything to do with animation, VFX and games, you ought to be in Bengaluru, that’s where the action is. I urge every studio leader to consider opening up a studio in the city and I assure you that you will have the best all-round support to run your productions out of the science and technology capital of India,” he said.

On the occasion, IT Minister Priyank Kharge said: “Bengaluru has every potential to offer an international platform for animation, visual effect and gaming industry. The objective of this event is to give professionals, artists and students from all over India access to quality content and bringing renowned speakers at an affordable price.”

Three More Join “Mortal Engines”


British acting legend Patrick Malahide (“Game of Thrones”), Bond film and “Arrow” actor Colin Salmon, and rising “Roots” star Rege-Jean Page have joined the cast of the Peter Jackson-produced “Mortal Engines” for MRC & Universal Pictures.

Robert Sheehan, Hugo Weaving and Stephen Lang lead the cast in this adaptation of Philip Reeve’s young adult novel series set in a devastated future world where the world’s cities are run by engines and move about Earth, giving them the ability to prey on other smaller towns for resources.

The story follows a teenager named Tom Natsworthy who, along with a young woman from a territory known as the Outlands, uncovers a mystery that could change the world order. Jackson’s protege Christian Rivers is directing the project which is currently shooting in New Zealand.

Disney Confirms “Black Panther” Characters

disney-confirms-black-panther-characters-696x464Though Disney did not show off any footage from Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” film during their CinemaCon panel this week, the Mouse House has confirmed details of all the principal cast of characters in the Marvel Studios film, including filling in some gaps. Some now confirmed characters are:

Lupita Nyong’o as T’Challa bodyguard Nakia who eventually turns against him and joins forces with the villain Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). There’s also Danai Gurira as fearsome Dora Milaje member Okoye, and Forest Whitaker as T’Chaka’s old friend Zuri. Finally the big reveal is Letitia Wright as Shuri, half-sister of T’Challa and one who ultimately takes up the mantle of Black Panther in the comics.

They join a cast that also includes Angela Bassett as the Queen Mother Ramonda, Daniel Kaluuya as Wakandan security chief W’Kabi, Winston Duke as M’Baku who becomes the supervillain Man-Ape in the comics, and Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu who is only described as a mysterious figure from T’Challa’s past.

Several “Captain America: Civil War” actors reprise their roles here including John Kani as King T’Chaka, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. Andy Serkis also reprises his Ulysses Klaue role from “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” while Phylicia Rashad has a role which has yet to be specified .“Black Panther” opens in February next year.
